Transformational Travel in Costa Rica
![]() |
The beaches of Costa Rica are stunning, pristine, and an outdoor adventurer's paradise. The Rich Coast is home to miles of golden and black sand beaches, endless surf, water sports, world-class snorkeling, and exotic wildlife. One of the most pristine beaches is Nammbu Beach on the Nicoya Peninsula.
The most common habitat in Costa Rica is the rainforest, however, the cloud forest and dry forest are also stunning sights. The popular southwest regions are known for their tremendous tree canopies, lush vegetation, and rare animals. Popular rainforest activities include hiking, safari or canopy tours, zip-lining, canyoning, rafting, and horseback riding.
There are ample ways to get out and explore Costa Rica for every activity level. Whether you prefer mountain, rainforest, beach, or eco-adventures, Costa Rica offers it all. It is world-renowned for its whitewater and flatwater rivers, Arenal Volcano, National Parks, and adventure tours. Adventure activities and tours in the area include white water rafting, canyoning, zip-lining, stand-up paddling, waterfall jumping, biking, hiking, eco and wildlife tours with companies like Desafio Adventure Company. Costa Rica is also known for its surf; beginners and experts alike, there are spots for everyone. Beginners are drawn to the waves at Playa Tamarindo and Ostional, while more experienced surfers travel to Guanacaste, Playa Avellanas, and Playa Marbella for bigger waves.
The Lake Arenal Volcano and the surrounding region is one of the most unique and beautiful. This area is home to incredible wildlife including tropical birds, alligators, monkeys, and sloths, among others. La Fortuna is one of the best towns in Costa Rica for enjoying both adventure and nature activities. Visitors love to explore the waterfalls, then visit nearby hot springs at the volcano base, taking time to relax and indulge.
The people, culture, and food of Costa Rica were my favorite things to experience. Costa Ricans (Ticos) are a kind, passionate, wise, and family-oriented people. They are said to make all feel welcome wherever you go. The locals lovingly and thoughtfully use a special phrase to communicate the essence of their home: Pura Vida. Pure Life. Traveling to Costa Rica is indeed known for leaving one transformed, and rich with life. We indulged in traditional Costa Rican cuisine, enjoyed popular authentic dishes like Cosado, handmade tortillas, corn, stew, hash, rice with chicken, rice pudding, and more. We were fortunate to patron several local coffee tours, organic foods, and sustainable farms on our trip.
