Big Sur, Big smiles - Camping with a View

Big Sur is a breathtaking stretch of California coastline that offers some of the most spectacular views in the world. For years, my friends and I had heard about a particular camping spot in the area, known as Prewitt Ridge in the Los Padres National Forest, but for one reason or another, we never had the chance to visit. Recently, however, we decided to take the plunge and plan a trip to this epic location.

Located on top of a monumental ridge, Prewitt Ridge offers campers the opportunity to witness the indescribable Big Sur coastline from above the clouds and above the waves. The campground, which is located on the Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, is only accessible by a slow, winding, dirt road that may not be suitable for all vehicles. However, the journey is worth it as the campground offers hiking trails, epic ocean and mountain views, and plenty of opportunities for exploring the natural beauty of the area.

We arrived at Prewitt Ridge with high expectations and we were not disappointed. The views were truly transformative and state-altering, and the natural beauty of the area was truly magical. The sunset was nothing short of spectacular, and we were grateful for the opportunity to take in the natural beauty of Big Sur.

Camping at Prewitt Ridge is a unique experience as it is a first-come, first-serve campground with no reservations, no toilets, and no running water. It's a true backcountry experience that requires a bit of planning and preparation. However, the lack of amenities is more than made up for by the stunning views and the sense of wilderness that you feel while camping there.

I read reviews about this place and the word heavenly barely did it justice. There really is nothing like it. Magic is tangible here as the view is transformative. I still get chills from the pictures!  It makes me so incredibly grateful for the life that I live, the places I get to experience, and for the people that surround me.

The experience of camping at Prewitt Ridge is not one that I will soon forget. The memories that we made and the beauty that we saw will stay with me forever. I would highly recommend this camping spot to anyone looking for a truly unique and unforgettable camping experience in Big Sur.
